Welcome to Fairlawn Avenue United Church
This is a church where you will not only find a warm welcome, but you will discover a church that lives out its faith in a way that is life affirming.
Whether you are looking for a new church home or are just cruising through, we are delighted you are visiting us. Fairlawn is a dynamic community of faith, with a vibrant music program, a passionate commitment to social and environmental justice and a focus on ministering to families, in all their diversity. We invite you to explore our web site and join us for a seminar or a social event, or our church service Sundays at 10:30 am. Travel with us on the adventure of living out our Christian faith in North Toronto and beyond.
With our vibrant church services, inspiring music from superb choirs under the direction of Eleanor Daley, challenging & uplifting sermons from Rev Christopher White, commitment to children & youth combined with our profound belief in speaking with & for the marginalized through our social justice ministry, Fairlawn is a congregation whose faith is put into action each & every week.
We celebrate the richness of our community with diversity in age, gender identity, racial and cultural backgrounds, mental health, sexual orientation, ability, and family configurations. We seek to create a safe space with an open invitation to bring every aspect of your whole self into your participation with us at Fairlawn.
Our purpose is to Connect with What Matters in Life:
- Explore Spirituality
- Experience Belonging
- Embrace Action
We share a strong sense of community, which is shown through our deep & loving relationships of fellowship and support within our church, and through our partnership with neighbourhood groups, and outreach to our sponsored charities.
We have a strong outreach program, called Embrace Action, supporting approximately 25 community groups, and an active Boarding Homes Ministry. Our Social Justice committee sponsored $2.5 million in affordable housing projects including the Regent Park redevelopment, Parkdale Green Phoenix, and Fred Victor Centre. Our Fairlawn Climate Justice program promotes green living and partners with Greening Sacred Spaces and the United Church’s Green Awakening Network.
Fairlawn is very active in the local community through our social events, Adult Education programs and workshops. Our facility provides a home for Amnesty International Group 65, Fairlawn Pre-school, Brownies, Guides, Cubs, Mumnet and others. We conduct all marriage ceremonies recognized by Canadian law, as well as baptisms and funerals.
