The Illegal by Lawrence Hill – Like every boy on the mountainous island of Zantoroland, running is all Keita’s ever wanted to do. In one of the poorest nations in the world, running means respect. Running means riches—until Keita is targeted for his father’s outspoken political views and discovers he must run for his family’s survival. Fast-moving and compelling, The Illegal won Canada Reads 2016.
The Heart Goes Last by Margaret Atwood – A wickedly funny and deeply disturbing novel about a near future in which the lawful are locked up and the lawless roam free.
Molly’s Game by Molly Bloom – The true story of the 26-year-old woman behind the most exclusive, high-stakes underground poker game in the world. Now a major motion picture.
The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up, the Japanese Art of decluttering and organizing by Marie Kondo. This best-selling guide to decluttering your home takes readers through the author’s step-by-step revolutionary method for simplifying, organizing, and storing. Learn how to bring joy to your life!
Secret Path by Gord Downie & Jeff Lemire – The graphic novel tells the story of Chanie Wenjack, a twelve year-old boy who died in 1966 while trying to return home after escaping from a residential school. Includes a ten song album download.
Inconvenient Indian, a Curious Account of Native People in North America by Thomas King – King has written a timely and timeless, brilliantly subversive and darkly humourous history of Indian-White relations in North America since initial contact. A delightful read with a powerful message.
What Happened by Hillary Rodham Clinton – For the first time, Hillary Rodham Clinton reveals what she was thinking and feeling during one of the most controversial and unpredictable presidential elections in history.
