Helping Hands
Helping Hands
This group provides short-term support, such as visits or phone calls during or following a hospital stay, delivering soup from the Soup Ministry, packing or unpacking in the case of a move, or whatever care is needed to assist on a temporary basis. Beth Jones will coordinate each ad hoc Helping Hands team, typically made up of the person’s friends, supplemented by other volunteers. The contact for Helping Hands is Beth Jones.
You are not alone
If you are wondering “What’s the difference between all these groups? — here’s a description of several groups offering support to members of our congregation at Fairlawn.
Helping Hands: This group provides short-term support. The contact for Helping Hands is Beth Jones.
Pastoral Visitation: Pastoral Visitation Ministry, provides support and compassion for those who from time to time experience difficulty in their lives. The role of Visitation is to make sure that our senior members are not neglected or forgotten. When you cannot come to church regularly, the Visitation Committee is here to visit you, send cards and flowers, and make sure you still feel part of the Fairlawn community. To use the words of our United Church creed, “We are not alone. Thanks be to God.” The contact for Pastoral Visitation is Sheila Corkill.
How to decide where to turn
If you’re not sure which lay ministry team would be appropriate, please get in touch with Carissa Urquhart. She has kindly volunteered to act as a “Connector” to help you navigate Fairlawn’s Experience Belonging support teams to determine which one best meets your needs.
Let’s all work together to ensure that no one falls through the cracks!
