Celebration of Life ~ Connie Buck

    Featured Saturday, Jan. 28, 2023 @ 2:00 pm - 3:30 pm
Fairlawn Avenue United Church 28 Fairlawn Avenue, Toronto, Toronto, Canada

Service of Thanksgiving Celebrating the Life of Ruth "Connie" Constance Buck 26 April 1930 – 8 December 2022 Fairlawn Avenue United Church, Toronto 28 January 2023 ~ 2:00 p.m. Following the Service We know that there are, among us, a great many "Connie stories" and every one contains an element of surprise ("I didn't know that about Connie!") and an essential element of Connie that rings true. We all, but especially Roy and Cindy and other members of Connie's family here today, want to hear those stories! Following the service the sanctuary will remain open for all who would like to mingle, talk among friends, and speak with Roy and Cindy. In addition, we are leaving the microphone at the front set up and live, so that if there are really good stories that we all would love to hear, you can go to the mic, and tell your story to everyone! The church will remain open as long as Roy and Cindy are still here! Duty of Care In our continuing commitment to keep everyone who uses our Fairlawn Avenue United facilities safe and comfortable, Fairlawn requires that masks be worn when in the building. We also provide two seating options in the sanctuary: unrestricted and socially distanced. Also, if you are feeling unwell for any reason, please stay home and take care of yourself.

Land Acknowledgement. Fairlawn acknowledges the sacred land on which our church stands. It has been a site of human activity for 15,000 years. This land is the territory of the Huron, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the New Credit River. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory. We are also mindful of broken covenants and the need to strive to make right with all our relations. The original nations continue to cry out for justice. As treaty people, we commit to listen, learn, and work toward justice and reconciliation.
