Let’s Talk About It: Fall Congregational Meetings

Two special congregational meetings will be held in November to share information, answer questions, foster discussion, and ensure we are aligned on a way forward.

Congregational Meeting 1: Post-service Financial Information & Discussion
Sunday, November 1, 2026  11:30am – 12:30pm

Thank you to everyone who joined us Sunday, November 1, for the congregational meeting about Fairlawn’s financial viability. Steve Dunk and Tom Salisbury confirmed that by maintaining our current approach to financial stewardship, and based on a set of conservative assumptions, we have the financial foundation to continue as a stand-alone community of faith for the next 10 years if we choose to do so.

Congregational Meeting 2: Post-service Community of Faith Profile Information & Discussion and Congregational Vote
Sunday, November 15, 2026  11:30am – 1:00pm

Please join us on Sunday, November 15 in the sanctuary following worship to continue shaping Fairlawn’s Next Chapter together.

We will provide an update on our enhanced Affirm Ministry and our new Fairlawn Connects Seniors’ Ministry and how these offerings have strengthened our Experience Belonging and Embrace Action ministries.

The Fairlawn’s Next Chapter Team will also present a summary of the congregational feedback received in October and answer any questions. We appreciate those who took the time to provide feedback, and in so doing support our collective discernment of our path forward.

If you have further feedback, you are welcome to email the Fairlawn’s Next Chapter team at ac.de1794042368tinue1794042368uneva1794042368nwalr1794042368iaf@k1794042368cabde1794042368ef1794042368. We will attempt to incorporate feedback received by November 8 into our next congregational meeting on November 15.

Please note that a congregational vote on the motion detailed below will occur at this meeting to assess whether we are generally aligned on the starting assumptions that will be used to guide the writing of the updated Community of Faith Profile. All established Fairlawn programs remain priorities, and the congregation will be given an opportunity to review the new proposed wording for the Community of Faith Profile before we formally vote on it in the New Year.

NOVEMBER 15 MOTION: Fairlawn’s 2022 Community of Faith Profile continues to describe who we are as a congregation – our faith, our values, and our purpose for ministry. We recognize that this profile needs to be refreshed to reflect the changes, learning, and growth we have experienced since 2022, including our Enhanced Affirm and Seniors’ Ministries.

Moved by _______, seconded by _______, that Fairlawn Avenue United Church continue as a stand-alone congregation and begin the process of calling a new minister in 2027, guided by a refreshed Community of Faith Profile to be updated and brought to a duly constituted congregational meeting for approval in early 2027.

We welcome everyone to join us in person or via Zoom. Zoom details will be shared in our Greetings! newsletter Friday, November 13.

For those attending in-person, lunch will be provided. Please RSVP to ac.de1794042368tinue1794042368uneva1794042368nwalr1794042368iaf@p1794042368vsr1794042368.

Please Join Us!

More information will follow in future Greetings! messages, and we strongly encourage you to join us on this journey. We look forward to shaping Fairlawn’s Next Chapter together as we strive to listen to where the Spirit lives in this community and work collaboratively to bring God’s vision to life.
