COMMUNITY OF FAITH PROFILE
Community of Faith Profile
Each community of faith in The United Church of Canada is responsible for maintaining an online Community of Faith profile (COFP). The purpose of the community of faith profile is to:
- articulate the community of faith’s witness to the gospel
- articulate the ministry needs of the community of faith
- summarize the community of faith’s resources and community context
When a community of faith is experiencing a change in pastoral relations, its profile needs to be updated. The core elements of a COFP for a congregation searching for a new minister are the:
- Living Faith Story
- Financial Viability Review
- Minister Position Description
The Living Faith Story articulates our ministry focus – our beliefs, our ministry needs, and our financial realities. It tells others – including prospective ministers – who we are, why we exist and what future options might best serve our vision and purpose as a faith community.
The Financial Viability Review ensures that the community of faith is financially secure enough to call a minister into a long-term pastoral relationship of at least three years.
The Position Description articulates the community of faith’s ministry needs. An accurate position description provides an organized summary of the duties, tasks, responsibilities, and accountability of the position, as well as the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to competently fulfill them.
