International Day of Pink ~ IDOP ECHO

    Featured April 11 @ 2:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Fairlawn Avenue United Church 28 Fairlawn Avenue, Toronto, Toronto, Canada

Fairlawn's Affirm Ministry proudly host the International Day of Pink Tour for the fourth year! IDOP's 2025 campaign theme is ECHO, honouring two landmark anniversaries in 2SLGBTQIA+ history: 25th anniversary of Little Sisters Book and Art Emporium v. Canada, a pivotal Supreme Court decision on freedom of expression and equality; 25th anniversary of the Modernization of Benefits and Obligations Act, which extended legal benefits to same-sex couples. Speakers: AJ Dolman is a writer, editor, and longtime advocate for bisexual visibility and mental health, whose work bridges storytelling and activism to support bi/pan+ communities and LGBTQIA+ human rights across Canada and beyond. Khashayar “Kess” Mohammadi (they/them) is a queer Iranian-born poet, writer, and translator based in Toronto, whose acclaimed and prolific work spans original and translated poetry, with multiple award nominations and forthcoming titles from presses across Canada and the U.S. More details coming soon!

Land Acknowledgement. Fairlawn acknowledges the sacred land on which our church stands. It has been a site of human activity for 15,000 years. This land is the territory of the Huron, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the New Credit River. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory. We are also mindful of broken covenants and the need to strive to make right with all our relations. The original nations continue to cry out for justice. As treaty people, we commit to listen, learn, and work toward justice and reconciliation.
