Online ~ Starlight ~ 3-part Advent series with Rev. Dr. Cameron Watts

    Featured Tuesday, Dec. 3, 2024 @ 7:00 pm - 8:30 pm Recurring

Online    Tuesday evenings 7:00pm – 8:30pm December 3, 10 & 17 Registration required Featuring chapters 1-3 from the book: "Starlight ~ Beholding the Christmas Miracle All Year Long" by John Shea. Christmas is a time of convergence when light and darkness, the divine and the human intersect in vivid ways. Shea helps us appreciate the feast of Christmas as a moment when "the spiritual suffuses the physical and turns it into a medium of revelation." Ordinary objects such as trees, stars, mangers, gifts, and communal meals become occasions which nourish our souls. The book is no longer in print so participants will receive the material (hard copy or online). Part 1 - Chapter 1:  The Soul of the Season Part 2 - Chapter 2:  Strange Stories, Spiritual Sight, and Blurred Guidelines Part 3 - Chapter 3:  Waking Up on Christmas Morning

Fairlawn Zoom meeting of the Affirm Ministry. Fairlawn is a welcoming and inclusive community of faith where you will discover a church that lives out its faith in a way that is both dynamic and life affirming. As a church, we celebrate the richness and diversity of our community, including 2SLGBTQIA+ (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and more). Fairlawn became an Affirming church in 2015. This inclusiveness is founded on love, and we invite all those who may be economically, physically or mentally challenged or who have been discriminated against because of ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, gender or age. Land Acknowledgement. Fairlawn acknowledges the sacred land on which our church stands. It has been a site of human activity for 15,000 years. This land is the territory of the Huron, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the New Credit River. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory. We are also mindful of broken covenants and the need to strive to make right with all our relations. The original nations continue to cry out for justice. As treaty people, we commit to listen, learn, and work toward justice and reconciliation.
