Fairlawn Avenue United Church 28 Fairlawn Avenue, Toronto, Toronto, Canada

Worship Services at Fairlawn Avenue United are on Sunday mornings at 10:30am in our sanctuary, with Minister the Rev. Dr. Cameron Watts; Associate Minister Rev. Jean Ward; Eleanor Daley, Director of Music; and the Fairlawn Avenue Senior Choir. If you’d like to revisit any of our online worship services, please visit our website worship page. On Sunday, June 2 at 10:30am Fairlawn Avenue United Church celebrates Pride Month. A guest speaker will share with us the important work of Rainbow Community Places (RCP). RCP offers a weekly queer drop-in program for both seniors and youth at Birchcliff Bluffs United Church in Scarborough. The programs are a lifeline for 2SLGBTQIA+ people in precarious situations, including newcomers, refugees, and others seeking community. There will also be music to celebrate our life together as an Affirming congregation and Coffee Hour after the service. We look forward to welcoming you to Fairlawn on June 2 for our annual Pride service

    Affirm Ministry Online Meeting

    Featured Thursday, Jul. 18, 2024 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm
    Online

Fairlawn Zoom meeting of the Affirm Ministry. Fairlawn is a welcoming and inclusive community of faith where you will discover a church that lives out its faith in a way that is both dynamic and life affirming. As a church, we celebrate the richness and diversity of our community, including 2SLGBTQIA+ (two-spirit, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, questioning, intersex, asexual and more). Fairlawn became an Affirming church in 2015. This inclusiveness is founded on love, and we invite all those who may be economically, physically or mentally challenged or who have been discriminated against because of ethnicity, sexual orientation, race, gender or age. If you would like more information or would like to become a member of the Affirm team, please contact Kevin Doe, Chair of Affirm at ac.de1780960823tinue1780960823uneva1780960823nwalr1780960823iaf@m1780960823riffa1780960823.

How We House – A Walking Tour Experience

    Featured Saturday, Sep. 28, 2024 @ 10:00 am - 1:00 pm
    Off-site , Canada

Regent Park Community Ministry, TUCC and the North Toronto Cluster present How We House - A Walking Tour Experience Saturday, September 28, from 10:00am- 1:00pm RGI… city subsidies… TCHC… housing coops… supportive housing… Do you find yourself wishing you better understood the different kinds of affordable housing options in the city, so you can advocate from an informed place? If so, you are not alone! We will go on a walking tour of the Regent Park neighbourhood, and hear from people that live in various types of housing about their experience. We will also learn about the history of affordable housing, the gaps and pressing areas for immediate advocacy regarding affordable housing. The walk itself will be approximately 1.5 km total with stops along the way, all within Regent Park, no major inclines or stairs involved. We meet promptly at 10:00am at 585 Dundas St. East, and our walk will reconvene at the same location for lunch and a Q&A session with the presenters. The event will wrap up no later than 1:00pm. Registrants are asked to register and the fee is $15 per person to help cover lunch and event costs. (Please note: You will be asked to make a quick account on the ChurchX website when signing up as part of the process. Land Acknowledgement. Fairlawn acknowledges the sacred land on which our church stands. It has been a site of human activity for 15,000 years. This land is the territory of the Huron, Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee, and most recently, the Mississaugas of the New Credit River. The territory was the subject of the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement between the Iroquois Confederacy and Confederacy of the Ojibwe and allied nations to peaceably share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. Today, the meeting place of Toronto is still home to many Indigenous people from across Turtle Island, and we are grateful to have the opportunity to work in the community, on this territory. We are also mindful of broken covenants and the need to strive to make right with all our relations. The original nations continue to cry out for justice. As treaty people, we commit to listen, learn, and work toward justice and reconciliation.
